When and where did you find out about Vortex Wars?

Postby Fangfallen » Wed Jul 31, 2013 4:38 pm

So, when did you find out about Vortex Wars and where was it?

I personal,y found about about Vortex Wars through Kong, not directly though. You see, I was browsing through Kong when I saw a game called Everybody Edits, it sounded ok so I tried it... I hated it . However, I always prefer playing a game on its main website, everybody edits was on its player IO website, and at the top of the page it showed other games, I tried them all, including Vortex Wars.

So, no matter how much I hate EE, I owe it one thing. You guys :D

I saw it on Armor Games as a new release and started playing, because I tried out pretty much every new strategy game at the time.

Same here except I play them on kong, I love strategy games :) EE used to be cool.. Then Ben got greedy and ruined it. I played literally the first version of it.

This lame friend of mine introduced me to EE. Then I was playing EE with another lame friend and saw Vortex Wars. He hated it, so I kept playing it to annoy him.

WHEN: I have been around since before Vortex Wars 1.0 - the "real game" came out. I was around for the beta versions.

All I know for sure is that I joined sometime between May 31, 2011 when 0.1 came out and before July 22, 2011 when 0.14 came out.

I went through the announcements thread to determine this. 0.14 was the introduction of the draw button - and I was around for a bit before that was released. I remember it well because I hated that day. There were MANY players taking advantage of this new feature which had not yet been perfected. At the time you could join and INSTANTLY draw. So - what a bunch of cheaters did was create "draw only" matches.

I had been enjoying the game for a bit - logged in that day and randomly clicked to join a map - which happened to be called "DRAW or GTFO" - I remember because all of the maps available were called that.

I tried to play the map and was the only player to not draw INSTANTLY. I, ofc, got "yelled at" by everyone and was forced to draw. Over the next few hours - the only games available were "draw only" matches set up by guys entering, drawing, splitting the xp and leveling up as quick as they could. I did not participate in this fraud and many moved up way past me.

WHERE: I used to use the website "Free Online Games" (http://www.fog.com) for all of my online gaming because I am cheap and free is my favorite price. During the beta phase - a Vortex Wars option became available and to me it looked a lot like Risk! which I was also playing a lot at the time. So I had to check it out and got hooked right away - been here ever since, although it took me until much later to discover and then register for the forum. I don't use FOG much anymore - usually just for single player games - but there is still some cool stuff there. http://www.fog.com

EDIT: Oh yeah - and in the early days a lot of the maps were full of impossible choke points and you got "stuck" a lot.

In Vortex Wars: 50% of the game is luck. 50% is skill. The other 50% is math.
