Turns end suddenly, no armies distributed

Postby panda » Tue Nov 15, 2011 5:55 pm

I just experienced a strange bug. The game (Full map, Attenuation, 6 players, no bonuses, user generated map) started normally. after only three players were left, the whole thing started acting strangely. Suddenly I could not attack, (I sometimes experience clicks not being recorded, this was different) and within seconds it was another players turn. No armies were distributed for me in these broken rounds. If I pressed end turn within 2-3 seconds after my turn started I could distribute armies or they were distributed automatically after about 2 seconds (the green bar was still filled as far as I remember)

My internet connection was stable during this time and sufficient bandwidth availible.

addendum:
The game still shows up grey in the game list, although it ended 15 minutes ago.

How would you be sure that the internet connection was stable? Not to doubt it, but similar things happened to me, but I only experienced them on a wireless connection or with torrents downloading, think about internet speed leeches. Sometimes it's just your connection with the server that may lag, it's no so odd that different people have different connection to the game.

Sometimes the game tends to go bizarre, but usually it's directed onto 1 player, so I would assume it's not a game thing, but rather your thing/server thing.

I am using the connection for work too and there are some permanent connections to various servers running 24/7. these are monitored and go to different datacenters, so I am quite sure about my side of the connection. If you have torrents downloading, it is a completely different scenario (router cannot handle too many connections, providers reducing speed of filesharing clients, dropping packets on purpose etc)

I'm not the one to underestimate your connection, I'm just speculating. My last options would be:

1. As I mentioned but did not specify - your connection with the VortexWars server might have been glitchy.
If I understand it correctly, there is a potential difference in connections, according to which countries/internet providers are connecting, that may have an impact in overload situations. I'm not sure about this, since I don't know how the game is designed.

2. If the flow of internet is prioritized for servers which must be on with a 24/7 basis, traffic might be diverted to them, in case of a necessity.

Just ideas, I can't implicate bugs, since I have no access, nor expertise for that
