There are two possibilities: the chatroom topic is stickied or non-stickied.

Two other possibilities: Popular or unpopular.

If it is stickied and popular, it stays on top and is useful on top.

If it is non-stickied and popular, it still stays on top and is useful on top.

If it is stickied and unpopular, it stays on top and is useless there.

If it is un-stickied and unpopular, it doesn't stay on top, and shouldn't.

Therefore, in the case where it continuously stays popular a sticky changes nothing; in the case where at some point in the future it becomes unpopular, it makes things worse. "At best changing nothing" isn't exactly the greatest argument for something.

3rd possibility. It gets locked.

That is also a possibility, but wasn't really relevant to the argument at hand.

Oh yeah and regarding stickies, as far as I'm concerned there are only 3 topics here that have every been proper 'sticky' successes:

-Report users
-Report Bugs
-VTI Tournaments

With the reporting ones they are vital, especially as it's often the only topics that some users post in (the only one we see users with 1 post in) and it being the most standout is neccesary.

With the tournaments as you get less players, popularity dissapears for a while until the next tournament starts. i.e. there are more posts during 16 players left compared to 4 players left. Various forum world championships get stickied due to this, some lasting half a year and growing largely unviewed until a winner and next tournament is announced.
The simple, the best.

But the discussion is more offtopic than about the game.

My chat room is like the help room for everyone. :)

Now, will the mods actually do anything about it?

A discussion topic is exactly the type that shouldn't be stickied. Topics that should be stickied are ones that anybody may need to find or that everyone should be able to see without without continuous posting; for example, report topics, rules topics, information topics.
