I was personally thinking about perhaps implementing the Elo Rating system. If you start everybody at 1000, (sorry tech, but it's the most fair) and then multiply the XP/shard winnings by a factor of the average rating of everyone else in the game divided by 1,000, you can factor in the relative skill of the players into the equation. The only problem I see is that the rating system itself would be a pain in the butt to implement and program.
