I quit

Postby AxemBlue » Thu Oct 04, 2012 2:13 am

Well, the straw finally broke the camel's back. I game across a hypocritical cheat of a noob who allied against me, sealing my fate. This player was level 2, brand new. These are the players the game now produces. You all have known that I detest allying, trucing, teaming whatever you want to call it ever since I first started playing. Well, it now seems I come across these heinous players basically cheating their way to victory in every game. Every time I gain an advantage I am beaten back into submission, every time someone just looks at my achievements and legacy they ally to destroy it. This coupled with a flawed rating system that encourages cowering in a corner instead of fighting for glory and blatant cheating and hacking everywhere has finally made up my mind. I quit vortex wars. The days of glory when I could decimate a game by my own strategy and power alone are no longer possible. Today I looked up, and saw that.

This is no half thought out attempt to get attention or hare-brained scheme to become a martyr. I am literally stopping all vortex war activity now that the game has become a chore for me. I will never be seen again in game and my posting will grind to a halt. I will use the time I once gave to a once fun game to pursue my other video game interests.

I say goodbye with no heavy heart, having made no impact on a community that stalls in apathy from good users and drivel from most others. Just let the name of AxemBlue remind you all of what has become of the game.

These are the ugly truths I now reveal. Now, in the immortal words of some band I don't care about
IT'S BEEN REAL, IT'S BEEN FUN, BUT IT HASN'T BEEN REAL FUN!

My internet handle elsewhere is Shyster shall I meet any of you again.
Why am I still skulking around here? That's a very good question.

AxemBlue,

+1 to all what you've said. I could see that coming, I'm close to same decision myself. I tried to attract attention to that real issue several times lately.

My latest try (http://www.vortexwars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2647) just turned into an off-topic argument between posters.

It looks like no one really cares. I suggested a game rule evolution that would more clearly split between any form of alliance and free for all, without barely any reaction, from Lopdo or anyone else. Really, no one cares.

The current distinction between forbidden multiple account players and admitted secret allies is just hypocrite and weak.

I just had 4 games like you describe within my 5 last games, including one game I created myself with title "No allies / No truce". Got trolled by allied noobs anyway, mocking and insulting me as I complained.

Not enough mods, no intention to state clear rules and apply them.

And a (presumably not so bad) Rating system that triggered most of that shit eventually.

Can't see we're going to find any way out of this by posting into "Blacklist" or "Report Users" tens of thousands of new players names. The list is going to get infinite, and good & fair players like you are going to leave.

I and probably every 2nd user have been thinking the same things, AxemBlue. You are totally not alone in this! And veteran players dropping from the game has been a common phenomenon lately (much greater than the amount of returning players) and I don't see a reason why this is going to stop.

I also once mentioned that I find it ridiculous that the "Vortex Wars Rulebook" (a sticky, no less) is written by Fiendess, a former mod who brought abuse of power and trolling to a whole new level. This ultimately summarizes what Vortex Wars has become - a mockery of itself and a subsequent joke.

And no need repeating this - moderation is effectively non-existent, and I don't think anybody higher-up really, truly cares.

This game needs more than a couple of new races every blue moon. At ArmorGames, it can't even match the score of the v1.X version (8.4 vs. 8.2 score as of the writing of this post).

The game keeps spawning never-fixed and never-ending bugs at a constant rate (just have a look at the "Bugs" forum) and every new version just seem to introduce new ones (negative rating bug, anyone?)

Lopdo himself wrote not too long ago that this is just a game, and not a too good one at that (look it up, not his exact words but pretty close).

I think this game's best achievement is the creation of a tightly-neat community of dedicated and passionate players, but honestly - there are maybe 2 dozen of them, total.

Mark my words - if nothing substantial happens with the game's development\moderation\support, in a matter of no more than 24 months, both the game servers and the forums will be shutdown indefinitely.

We need a topic for this. What to do I mean, so who wants to make it?
