(continuing from when I first left) How could they battle to get the territory back if it is already captured by someone/all of their other territories are already taken? And even if most of their territory wasn't taken, they wouldn't be able to spawn back in because their original territory would still be taken. Sorry if I am sounding kind of stupid here, but I am just not getting your concept.

basically you cannot re-join until your original territory is empty

But once a territory is taken at all it can't become empty.

oh, well then i think it must be that whenever whoever owns it is defeated the region becomes yours

This is a CTF mode. When someone's "Flag" is taken, all their remaining spots become blank spots. The people who they had defeated would then be freed, and the new blank spots distributed among them. Their home spot could start as a 4, the next layer 3, then 2, then 1. If two freed people both have it there, then the bigger one wins. If they are equal, it is chosen randomly. This would also make it strategic to capture every region before taking the flag.
