I guess the fact that techgump is trying means that he admits he isn't smart.

techgump might not be smart (i wouldn't know), but he's probably more wise then everyone here combined. and really in life, no one's gonna marry you if you got all A's in kindergarten. it really depends on how wise you are (i know looks affect stuff, but in true marriage, looks aren't a huge thing although they might be needed). if you don't have empathy and can't realize how other people are feeling, its gonna be hard. Being wise makes you smart. but being smart doesn't make you wise.

lol that was just a random thought that came in my head

@furqi, all those things really are are just popularity contests. I don't see a need for more meaningless things.

how is it meaningless? a presidential election is a popularity contest.

anywats, statistics show that games with user voting, no matter how stupid the voting is, it makes users like the game better. i also took a psychology class and it told me that as well. plus a voting system can't be that hard to make right?

It wouldn't be hard to replace VW with a website that puts botnets on your computer, should we do that?

Can you tell me where this psychology class was? Lots of low level psychology classes teach Freudian based stuff that isn't really accurate.

A presidential election is more than just that; it is based off of beliefs of the people. Nonetheless, whether all popularity contests are meaningless or not, this certainly would be.

Also, to techgump, I actually don't have a calculator. Too much of a genius, don't need one.

That's right Rat, I was paying you a compliment. However, I am starting to second guess that, as you appear to not understand it as such.

Likewise, the genius thing to do is use calculators (not to mention computers are calculators). Why would you not use tools that make your life easier and tasks faster? hmmm.

Let's see what my eight volume Oxford dictionary says.

Hmm, a mechanical contrivance specialized for the purpose of performing mathematical calculations for a user.

As a general purpose computer is not specialized specifically in performing mathematical calculations for the user, it does not fit that definition. Ha.

I do understand it as a compliment, I am just showing that it is also an insult to yourself.

Yes, some of us can make fun of ourselves.

?? Um, computers are constantly and specifically designed to perform mathematical calculations for users when in use.

But they are designed for general purposes, not solely for that purpose, and thus not specialized for that purpose.

The term "computer" originally referred to a person who performed numerical calculations (much like an A-level Maths student!). Today's computers are, in essence, very efficient number-crunching machines, capable of performing tasks of startling complexity using a very small number of arithmetical and data-manipulative operations.

Yes, everything they do is mathematical computations; however, these are not specialized for solving mathematical problems for the user, they compute it to perform different tasks.

Your argument is about semantics. Either way, we both know you use a calculator. You don't take the math classes your taking without one.
