I know my idea wouldn't get rid of FTA. But how about this: after a round, the person at first goes to the end of the line.

I actually don't think this is as fair as the randomizing.....but whatever.
This too shall pass.

The amount of times I have to deal with being last in turn order is laughably high.

Does this mean you are going against or for my new idea?

@Robomajor

I think your first idea was pretty good. That way everyone does get an equal amount of turns, just in different orders every time. Your second idea is even better.

However, in an 8 player game, it would be a while before the last person got FTA.

That is why I prefer my first idea.

Yes, true, that is an advantage.

Honestly, both ideas are bad when looked at from a theorycrafting point of view.

Getting two turns in a row is a bigger advantage than going first for the whole game. Switching turn order or randomizing turn order can both lead to this absolutely imbalanced situation.

It is a mathematically proven fact, there is no way to counter FTA in a turn based game where nothing is pre-placed on the board. Randomizing the turn orders and keeping it that way the whole game is the only somewhat-solution, as it should lead to an overall "balace" for every player from game to game.

Besides, the more the players, the more FTA is negated. Avoid 2-3 player games, go for bigger ones, and you should be mostly fine if the game area is big enough for everyone to have a decent starting location ;)

But with more players, the FIRST first turn advantage can be even more important. Unfortunately, the only way around that would be to make maps that cange this.

No, FTA is stronger with fewer players. You're better off being last in an eight player game than you are in a two player game, by far.

Overall, FTA is negated by more players. But in the first round, good starting spots go away quickly, so in the first round, FTA is bigger. However, it balances this out by making it much smaller in later rounds.
