From what you are saying it sounds like the guest never actually said he was stuck, you just assumed that. My guess is that the guest was just trying to save up.

No the guest was complaining how he couldn't move, but I think he probably didn't know how to expand since everyone else could.

it is quite possible that only he had that problem, on the other hand it is also quite possible that he just didn't know what to do. We will never know
