Thanks to Chrome Open Source and the massive amount of extensions in such a short time, this is just one of a few ways to do this:

The idea is to build a lite program and let the user add to it as needed. Not add a bunch of crap that cant be removed and slows the browser down... let alone not be open to the public.

Well, idk then. I am not sure why you would not want tabs in the first place.
Guess you'll have to go back to your bloatware browser.

I actually switched back to safari (which slightly more native to Mac OS X compared to chrome) and the problem is gone!

I want tabs, just not on top where they are ugly, unintuitive, and hard to reach. I open a new tab before I enter an address in; so why should I reach above, then go down, rather than have a more fluid movement where I go up, and continue to go up until I reach the right spot, and then go to the page?

why would you even want to move anywhere? Ctrl+t and just start typing. Tabs on top save precious screen estate. Only other valid reason not to want tabs on top would be wanting them on the side if you have widescreen monitor

Um, how about a keyboard shortcut!
The mouse itself is what is killing your time. Try Ctrl + T :)

^^ Lopdo beat me to it.

All that did was make my mouse disappear. Very useful.

However, even for command-t, if I use that, I have to move my hand to the keyboard, which take more time than moving my mouse up. I do not normally spend most of my time typing, therefore I keep my hand in a more comfortable position than on the keyboard. So that just wastes more time >_>

How often do you NOT type if you are opening a new tab?

If you are not typing after opening a new tab, then:
a) you opened a link in a new tab (no typing at all)
b) used a bookmark afterwards (right below the tabs)

Otherwise, you are going to need to type, as you stated yourself.

As for your mouse disappearing on ⌘ Cmd+T, looks like you Mac is broken. That is the right keyboard shortcut. You should use Windows!

And in general, GUI navigation is slow. I recommend trying to go a few weeks without a mouse as MUCH as possible. You might be amazed how much faster you can become leveraging your shortcuts.
