Barbarians were originally all non-Greeks, the Romans adopted the idea from the Greeks, just like their religion, architecture, etc.

In this case, barbarians refer to all European tribes north of Rome, including, but not limited to Germanic people, Guals, Goths, Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Vandals, Saxons, and technically the Huns, though they come from the Steppes, and are not inherently European, therefore can be excluded from the list if I felt like it.

Anyway, if Gollum is ok with Assyria, I will add you all.
