Attrition Details

Postby Froggy618157725 » Fri Oct 26, 2012 10:47 am

I'd like to figure out how exactly attrition works, but I'm also pretty lazy. If we all do a little bit, we should be able to get it fairly fast.

Record some of your attrition attack results and report them here, for great science.
(Attack_Num:Roll, Defense_Num:Roll, remaining)

For instance, say you attack a 1 with a 3, and roll 11v4, and wind up with two. Record that as
(3:11,1:4,2)

Let's figure this 'un out.

The following are all 8v8's.
(Attack Roll, Defense Roll, winning side's remaining pieces)
Code: Select all
19 32 8   15 31 8
35 31 3   36 22 7
33 26 4   24 28 4
37 26 6   29 28 1
25 27 2   27 28 1
29 27 1   31 34 3
25 31 4   32 27 2
24 26 2   27 25 1
24 26 2   32 17 6
35 35 1   27 24 2
31 36 5   33 24 4
22 29 7   32 33 1
27 22 4   28 36 6
31 26 3   23 27 5
24 20 3   23 30 7
18 28 7   29 21 6
33 31 1   29 29 1
33 26 5   30 33 3
30 20 6   24 26 2
25 22 2   26 30 6
24 36 8   26 30 4
24 36 7   29 24 4
28 27 1   31 23 4
27 30 4   36 38 2

It's tab separated, if you want to read it in with something.

edit:
Well, folks, it looks like there might be randomness in it.
I'm working off of the assumption that it's based on the difference of the rolls. Going off of that, I get inconsistent values. If it turns out my assumption is right, there's also random variation in it, so we'll need a lot more data to get it right. Unless Lopdo just tells us ;)

Perhaps it works more like Risk and which dice roll what actually matters.

And I jump shouting "RUN!" and begin using my epic ninja skills to defeat them.

Unfortunately, that doesn't matter at this stage, since we don't know what the individual dice rolls are :/

Regardless, we need large amounts of roll results to be able to do anything. After that we can worry about the internal details. Perhaps a bunch of 3v1's would be the most useful, since we know what the 1 rolls. 2v2 losses would also be useful. We'd need quite a lot of 8v8's to be able to get enough information to figure out what the rules are if the result of each of the 8 rolls are hidden.

What I'm really trying to say is post more data, less speculation at this point :p

It is what I assumed for a while, I've just had no reason to tell anyone, and I used 'perhaps' because I could not be sure.
