Interesting. I watched the vid.
So, a few ideas. I cant see the settings that well, so maybes some already exist:

Color:
Settings for invert the colors from image to Pixplosion.
and/or
Complementary colors from image to Pixplosion.

Shapes:
Allow to pick shapes that make each single "spark".

Save and share:
Save your pixplosion and share. IE: I can take my party pic and add some fireworks easily and share with friends.

Not sure if iphone has a music visulizations... but would be cool if you can turn on mic, select an image... and pixplosion works automatically like a music visualization based on sound input... seems you'd be 1/2 way there or more with what you got. Get that far, you could partner with some music players to have it included in their app as the music visualizer.
Good luck :)

nice ideas

that might be interesting

I don't understand what you mean

that might not be possible, even simple points are computationally expensive and app barely moves smoothly

it is very dynamic, it's hard to pick correct moment (trust me, I tried to make screenshots for app store :) ). Also static image doesn't look very good because it is too dark (only every 1/16 of pixels is used, rest is black)

now that is great idea, unfortunately I never worked with music and sounds and wouldn't know where to begin

Complementary colors from image to Pixplosion. It's similar to inverting a color, but not quiet. It is the opposite color on a color wheel.
Maybe a color transparency setting as well.

And I wasn't referring to a single snap of the image. I was referring to actually recording a time period (start and stop recording), and converting to a play friendly medium for mms or email.

As for music vizualization, maybe this will help:

And make sure you brand the play friendly recording with a link in bottom right to download the software... let users spread the word for you automatically.
