Leaver Status

So basically after playing a bunch of games I've noticed a lot of people tend to leave halfway though the game. Now although this is not as annoying is it would be in a team based game, it can still really get you down when your doing well and everyone leaves.
So I had an idea, basically implement a leaver system, much like the one in the popular game Heroes of Newerth. Essentially if you leave a game before you are eliminated you will get one "leave" added to your profile. After you get a certain amount of leaves you would not be able to play in a game that disallows leavers. In addition to this, you should only get 25% of the exp and crystals you would get for actually being eliminated and not be able to join another game for X amount of time.
Now although people could just make another account to get around this, it would at least discourage anyone who is serious about playing the game from leaving just because they are doing badly.
In Summery:
Person leaves game - looses 75% exp from that game and cant join another one for X minutes. Leaver count +1
Leaver count reaches Z number (perhaps % of total games played) - Player gets "leaver" status
Leaver status - Can not join games that do not allow leavers (much like games that don't allow guests)

That would be terrible if you get randomly disconnected and you have to wait for a few minutes just because of your bad computer.

I kinda like this idea as well. Granted it does suck for people with bad connection... but it equally or more sucks for those that don't, and want a full player game without quitters.

Or, better, a blacklist system where people on your blacklist can't join games you create. Anyone who quits you can add to your blacklist.

I could see that being abused, you could get beaten really badly by a high level guy and decide you never want to play against him again.

I still don't see what the problem with this would be. If you're the one creating the match, it'd be no different then playing a private game.

The problem is theres three levels here:
1) Drops because of connection.
2) Drops for malicious reasons.
3) Drops for non-malicious reasons.
We all agree that 2 is bad, and 1 is regrettable, but it's the 3 that I fall into most of the time. I've dropped a game because I had to go help my son in the kitchen. I've dropped games when it was obvious I was the next to be eliminated*, not here, but other games I've dropped because I really just couldn't stand to listen to some foul mouthed guest rattle on for another half hour. None of these are people trying to 'ruin your game' and in fact, from a scoring point, drops are a GOOD thing. Consider that you only get XP and shards for capturing claimed regions. A drop is a set of claimed regions that won't be reinforcing against you. Each place you finish a 5 XP performance boost, every dropped player moves you one step closer to first.
I can see why we might want to TRACK quits, but acting on them is not really a great idea.
* Yes, I know, you can always come back from anything. Dice are random, nothing is set in stone, yadda yadda yadda. But when I've got 8 spaces all at 1, and I'm surrounded on every side by a guy with 35 spaces, 8 in every space touching me, and 2 allies on the board, its OVER. Maybe a turn, maybe 7 while he deals with the two other guys not allied with him, but I'm not coming back. I can drop now, and go have fun, or suffer through someone else's obvious end-game. Even chess allows you to lay down you king and surrender, with no penalty other than a loss. There's a huge difference in my opinion between 'quitting' and 'conceding victory to a superior opponent.'

mmm thats understandable. Perhaps keep the idea of a "leaver" status but remove the wait time. That way as long as you play the majority of your games you will be fine. Set the % of games left before you get "leaver" status to say 20% or so meaning that for every 10 games you play you can leave 2, I would say that's a decent amount. Tbh waiting 7 turns or something for you to be eliminated isnt a big deal, its only like a minute or 2 tops.
As for people with bad connections, the sad fact of the matter is that someone with a bad connection should not be playing in an online game.
