Well, first of, I'm not saying this just because I can't afford them. I mean it. This kind of stuff unbalances games. I'd rather have them increase exp gain or something like that. It's hard to explain why, so I'll let this video explain. Please click the following link and watch the video.

Great video, thanks for posting.
To address few points, only thing that can unbalance game are races, there is also other content so races are minor part of what you can buy, and this ratio will decrease even more after I add new content. Also bonuses those races provide are really small, if you do the math you will realize that they are really neglectable. So it is not about selling power :)
Secondly, you will be able to get all those items for free. There will be two currencies (for technical reasons) coins you can buy, and other one you will get for playing (conquering regions to be more precise). You will be able to pay for item with whichever currency you prefer.

So the "energy" like system will be based on regions conquered, not just gained over time like EE energy.

I think that's a good idea. EE energy is a somewhat imperfect system.
