Perhaps there could be central areas that give some kind of bonus to whoever occupies them. Perhaps that territory has +25% defense, or counts a 3 terriories for the purposes of calculating reinforcements. It could also function as an objective, where the first team to hold it for 5 consecutive turns wins the game. Either way, this could add more strategic depth as the players will have something tangible to go after and capture.
