Since people keep complaining about rating system (that is is too random and you can lose quite a lot when you finish first in 8 player game), I started thinking about how I could fix that. Best solution I had so far is this:
Create special game mode, ranked games. Rating would be used only in those games, all other games would be rating free. You still will be able to select your favorite setup (full map/conquer, Att/HC...) but the games would be always 1v1 so the rating will be much more telling than it is now. There still will be lot of luck involved, but we can't get rid of that completely. Since we have 1v1 matches only, we can do something about FTA as well. I am not sure what game it was, but I saw somewhere following solution for conquer mode (and it was even discussed here couple times): First player gets 1 army at the end of his turn, second player gets 2 army to counter the fact that he was 2nd. I am bit foggy about how it goes next, but I think that subsequent turns behave normally (I will have to investigate that in bit more detail). I have no idea how this could be used in full map mode and since FTA is probably even stronger there, I might have to remove this mode from ranked games.
This solution would even solve most of the problems I encountered while trying to implement clans, so if we have ranked games, we could have clans and clan battles (still only 1v1 though).
Would you like something like this? Please discuss any and all aspects, it is just proposal, lot of things can change (and probably will) thanks to your input
