1 vs 1 balanced idea

I'm sure anybody who's tried a 1 vs 1 match will know player 1 has a looming advantage over player 2. Although VW is a game based around largely utilising diplomacy to win I think it would be interesting to have a balanced 1 vs 1 setup on conquest that has little 'First turn advantage' or FTA. My idea is simple; make P2 on their first turn get 2 men instead of 1 so that P1 has 2 men to start with and P2 has 3 men to start with. Assuming that they expand with no resistance each turn, each turn's territories would look like this;

P1 - 1 2 4 8 16
P2 - 1 3 6 12 24

note that both players advantage over each other never expands at a much greater rate than the other with both players having a 1 territory advantage over the other, then 2 then 4 and so on...

I think it would be an interesting game mode to play around with :D thoughts?

I believe this exact solution has been suggested before, not sure what Lopdo said about it… if anything this should only apply first few rounds and then fade out.

Ah damn... hmm I should have thought to search the forums first. It would only be 1st turn as it seems that would seem to give both players a fair chance.

It would balance the FTA problem, but unbalance another one even more; those people who just pick their starting territory right next you.

Eheh very very true... in fact the random map layout probably decides the winner at the start :|

Now I see why it's not been balanced

But what about on hardcore... where the first player advantage is HUGE?

lol. I don't believe in this idea. What if the first players troll the 2nd player by picking the middle? I mean on like sgt slaugthers map.

Full map > Conquest if you want to get away from trolls and FTA

And what about giving the 2nd player that extra unit only in turn 2.

Like this:
P1 - 1 2 4 8 16
P2 - 1 2 5 10 20

Not only the 2nd player advantage would be smaller, but at the same time it would give 1st player the chance of killing anyone who tries to start next to him.
