I think forgetting about the rating system lies within your own psychology, you have to convince yourself it doesn't matter, like I did for levels.

Nice new avatar by the way, changing them seems to be some sort of trend

It's a good idea, I'm not happy that mine has fallen to 1700 and i saw this guy with 732 who said he was too embarressed to even play anymore.
