The single biggest problem with the game in random mode as things stand is that there is almost NO tactical skill required. The game is way, way, WAY to hinged on the dice rolls. The only way to compensate for that is to allow multiple territories to attack one at ALL times. The chokes prevent this and turn vortex wars away from the original intent of being a complex tactical warfare game. The only viable strategy that even works at all times is the 8 turtle were you wait for all your spaces to be 8's then advance 1 or 2 at a time. It takes for flipping ever but on choke maps it's unbeatable.
Vortex Wars has a very good concept behind it but it has a lot of big problems that prevent that concept from playing a roll in the game. When you give the computer to much control over something you can bet it will do what it can to mess everything up. The game should include an option for people who like it as is that would preserve things as they are i.e. chokes and crappy game ending dice rolls and unit placements.
The game should also include an option for people who actually wanna use some real skill in the game to change the game ending dice rolls into something more playable. I'd be happy if the dice were taken away actually. They control way to much and take to much from the skill part. A guy can live forever on two lands if his luck holds out. I've even seen 4s beat 8s, and it happens a lot.
Those are my thoughts and I'll probably get bashed for it.
