Co-operative Game Mode Idea

Postby GamerzX » Sat Aug 18, 2012 10:38 pm

Recently I've noticed many people within game titling their games "Teams". So myself and Karen219 have decided to leave it to your vote to see if we can persuade Lopdo to implement a "Co-operative Mode" into the game.

We have had a sit down and a chat on coming up with a few ideas on how this mode could work should it be implemented, and here is what we have so far:
The maximum amount of people in game will remain at 8(Or however many people you select), but instead of each player being allocated their own individual colour; the colours Pink, Orange, Teal and Brown will be removed so that you have 2 players under the colour Red, Blue, Yellow and Green. This will work as any other game does with the colour being selected at random. So in effect, say you draw the colour red, the other person that gets red is your Team-mate.
Each person will be free to choose their own starting position as normal so you aren't "stuck" to your Team-mate and are therefore able to work as you would in Alliance and take advantage of eachothers position on the map.
Should your Team-mate be eliminated from the game all his Territory is turned white as if it would after someone has surrendered so that the other person in the team cannot utilize their opponents captured territory.
This game will work just as a normal game does, where each person has their own individual captured territory and individual distribution points e.g. Red 1 has 18 Territory and 18 Distribution Points and Red 2 has 12 Territory and 12 Distribution points.
After all but one colour remains that remaining colour is the winning team and each individual member of the teams exp earnt, shards earnt and ranking earnt are added together then halved to be split between either members of the team. Should your team-mate be eliminated and you go on to win the match yourself the exp, shards and ranking earnt will remain as they would be in a normal game.

In summary almost everything will be left the same as it were in a normal game except the exclusion of the last 4 colours, meaning 2 people will be allocated the same colour at random, this is in the hopes that it will allow Lopdo to implement the mode easily, should it prove popular and in demand. And another upside to this mode being implemented is the fact that those who do not like team games don't have to worry about alliances being made in their games as those who enjoy team style games have this mode to play and therefore extinguishes the need to make alliances in other game modes.

And finally, all of this is just an idea and open to discussion on what you think the Co-Op mode could be like, so please share your ideas below but please try and remember to keep it simple and close to the game's normal playing style so it won't prove too much of a chore for our Lopdo :) Thank you all for reading, please share your opinions and vote on the poll above! :D

P.S. Lopdo, I dare you to leave it to the community to decide ;) XD

If this idea was implemented it could also rejuvenate interest in Clan Wars again . Well done Gamerzx and Karen219 for this.

You raise a valid point but we thought it best to leave the selection of your team-mate as random as it could be unfair on others if the more powerful players always choose to team with one another. e.g. If you have two people with advanced races and all the upgrades constantly choosing to team with eachother the lower leveled players stand less of a chance.

Perhaps we could implement something within the mode that doesn't allow people to quit?

So it is basically just game supported allying, with small benefits. I like how it solve all the problem that would different kind of team-play have. I don't like the randomness of teams, but I think this could be relatively easily solved by some kind of manual selection of color.

I am not sure if people would like this version of team game, but that is for you guys to decide :) If it gets popular enough I might implement it, if I find enough time for it

I love the idea first off. Although you should be able to connect through your ally and get the distribution bonus from your territory, just your territory mind you. since you can't attack your ally to connect it would be essential. Also curious if your ally would count for borders as a second priority defense, as if it where a white space with units. Because if your ally surrenders and they aren't counted as a border, you are vulnerable. Also a way to distinguish between you and your ally better since you are the same color would help, less timer run-outs trying to distinguish yourself from your ally.

Well, theres still a possibility to choose ( Manual or Random selection for teamate )
and u cant force people to not leave...i just have to close my browser windos haha ! good try :D

and if some1 u dont know...quit....i suggest u can have % of his territories in compensation :) or all his lands....etc..

Love it. Only change I would make is that if they leave, it is handed ShellShock style and you take their turn with their land when they would be taking their turn.

Oh, and options of different team size, eg 3v3 and 4v4.

As wonderful as this all sounds, I'll have to dampen everyone's optimism with my arrogant opinion that teams will never work for Vortex Wars. This proposed team system is detailed enough, and fixes some of the problems of allies like unbalanced games where some players don't or can't ally, allies of unequal power to everyone else, or someone unexpectedly leaving as rat suggested. However, as the same color, allies will not be able to attack each other, leaving them with nothing to do when the enemy is only accessible by a route controlled by one player. If a player doesn't know what he's doing, he could easily trap his ally accidently, or even on purpose for teh trollz. Not being able to take your teammate's land also means that important elements of team strategy are impossible, such as weakening an 8 to let your buddy attack through it. Such occurrences are common on random maps, and many custom maps would be outright impossible. Allowing players to attack their ally would lead to problems like backstabbing, which nobody seems to like but me, so that's not a solution. For this proposal to have any chance of success, we would have to have a special team map generator without big choke points and restriction of custom maps. Unless anybody has a genius idea to address these problems, -1.
Why am I still skulking around here? That's a very good question.
