I think opening up spectator mode for everyone, and disabling spectator chat would be nice.
At least the option in game setup to let users spectate or not.

it is isn't hard to make, functionality is already there. I enabled it for mods only to beta-test it and to see how community would react. I might enable it in next update

I was thinking about that, but I would have to show how many spectators are present, but that shouldn't be a problem either
