I ban Iamhere for assuming a blade is a weapon... it is most definitely not. What it depends on is the length of the blade to make it legal or not. It also depends where you are. Some organizations do not allow any type of blade, others permit some blades of varying lengths, and some others allow any type of blade imaginable.

Personally I work at a camp where we fall under the second bracket. We allow blades up to about four inches. In fact I teach boys how to carve using knives, chisels, awls, and other blades. This camp also does not allow any type of weapon on camp other than those monitored by nationally certified counselors. (Of which I am not, but I am qualified to help support the officially trained people in any way.)
