STAR WARS;1977
Star Wars.jpg

This single film changed everything and became a trend setter for the film industry to catch up with George Lucas. Not only did the original 1977 surpass and exceed all expectations but left the fans wanting more and George Lucas didn't disappoint them.
Gone were the days of the spinning hub-caps of the 50's sci-fi or the poor costumes of the 60's,here was Star Wars showing wonderful ships of all sizes, aliens that didn't look like bad rubber dummies and best of all lazer blasts that looked real and light-sabre's.And it wasn't the acting that held the audience but the visual effects and costume designs.Star Wars was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and took 6 of them.Star Wars isn't just a single film anymore,it had sequels , a prequel trilogy and another sequel trilogy planned for 2015.

The film introduced many great characters onto the audience, the most sinister being DARTH VADER,nothing since Dracula could embody a pure aurora of evil and dread.A man part machine all dressed in black.

George Lucas's concept of his creation even awed himself, the momentum of his first Star Wars film steam rolled into a multi-billion industry of books,toys,comics,spin-offs,collectors models and repilca costumes. As for the forth coming trilogy thats all in the hands of Disney now as they bought LucasFilms for a meer $4.05 Billion

Excellent job by Highlander. Nice way to knock yourself out of the top spot!

Highlander takes over both #1 and #2.

So - Who is now up to the challenge?

Noah (2014)

It's a modern blockbuster, chock full of the visual and aural and narrative tics we expect from modern blockbusters: flash-cut nightmares and hallucinations, prophecies and old wise men, predictions of apocalypse and a savior's rise, computer-generated monsters with galumphing feet and deep voices, brawny men punching and stabbing each other, and crowd scenes and floods and circling aerial views of enormous structures being built, scored to tom-toms and men chanting and women wailing.

But wait! This is not the latest Marvel Comics epic. Nor is it a standard-issue messianic sci-fi film along the lines of "Star Wars" or "The Matrix". "Noah" is more of a surrealist nightmare disaster picture fused to a parable of human greed and compassion, all based on the bestselling book of all time, the Bible, mainly the Book of Genesis.

More specifically, "Noah" is writer-director Darren Aronofksy's interpretation of the story of Noah and the flood. He's made a few changes.

Okay, a lot more than a few. This is the Book of Genesis after a page one rewrite. You don't see movies like this everyday. You don't see movies like this ever.

And now we have a contest going!

Noah is the first one on the list that I haven't seen yet, but what a compelling reason - You have earned the second spot. Well done!

And I already had planned to see Noah in the next week or so.

Great movie - And I agree on choosing the 1st in the series. Based on your reasoning you start at the #5 slot. There are some compelling cases by those higher on the list.

Still room for others to contribute, previous players to add another selection. And any player can add to their support up until 2 days after the last spot is filled.

Good luck to all players. And if anyone not in the game disagrees, you can point out where a player made a better case for their choice.

Let the chat begin!

NATIONAL LAMPOONS ANIMAL HOUSE;
National Lampoons Animal House.jpg

This film crammed in so many jokes and innuendos that one viewing isn't enough, the film is about a non-conforming misfits from a fraternity house. With such great acting throughout its hard to pick out just one single scene.
From the horse having a heart-attack to being chain-sawed.
Bluto's charade game of being a ZiT.
The film also had a great selection of actors , Donald Sutherland , Kevin Bacon , Karen Allen , John Belushi and John Vernon.
The film itself cost $2.8 million but has grossed over $140 million.
This film also has the claim to fame as for making Toga Parties part of college social event.
Also Donald Sutherland was offered $35,000 plus a percentage based fee but he declined opting for hard cash of $50,000 making him the highest priced actor for the film but his judgement cost him $20 million in Royalties.
