				what? how?
anyway what is this about? I thought it was to stop this new health care system but I read somewhere that it went through anyway or something. (I am too lazy and not interested enough to look it up myself)

Because the Republican-led House of Representatives refuses to negotiate with the Democrat-led Senate (and vice-versa), the US is about to fail to pay its bills on time, therefore shutting down a large portion of the government. This shutdown is due to the disagreement over the ACA (Affordable Care Act) and neither party will budge (at present, that is). While the Republicans in the House refuse to sign any bill that will not delay the enactment of the ACA (though it started today), the Democrats in the Senate will refuse to sign anything altering the mandate. This led to hundreds of thousands of americans that work for the federal government to either be furloughed (temporary leave without pay) or they are at work and not getting paid for being there.
Sucks to suck, but the US political system is a mess.
EDIT: And because I work for the government, I'm currently furloughed.

Wow. And I thought our government was corrupt. And in this sense, corrupt meaning focusing on what lies round the corner for their reputation rather than the greater picture for people as a whole.

The worst part is that there are enough republicans in the house willing to pass a bill to increase the debt ceiling without delaying the PPACA, but thanks to the Hastert rule that won't be allowed to happen.

Problem is, the portion of people who were looking down on Europe to begin with are the same ones who are just as willing to disown everyone who is on food stamps.
