Walking down the street and shopping, you could probably also get by not knowing how to speak. Or having friends. Or knowing how to eat healthily. Or having a place to live.
Those must all be useless.

I like math, but Joshua is right here. No one said advanced mathematics was useless... but there is a MAJOR difference for the common man between being able to communicate with others and having friends, vs being able to assist yourself or others leveraging mathematics. The comparison is not even close, at least in today's age. One can make millions of dollars today, and not know too much math... but one would find it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to do without friends or being able to communicate.
Sure, math is extremely helpful in ways one might not foresee at the moment... but all the same, it's not a necessity for a decent life. I'd compare advanced math to woodworking, or plumbing, or networking, or computer repair, or any number of things that are great to know, but not necessary to success or happiness... unlike that of friends and communication according to behavior ecology.

All of those are (virtually) necessary to success or happiness in the modern world…
…just not necessary for you to be capable of.
