All i can say: nearly 40 million on food stamps you can't look down your nose at europe anymore.

Food Stamps, while federally funded, are managed by the states. They won't be affected immediately, but will likely be cut if the shutdown is prolonged.

Slovakia is so small it's almost impossible to screw up. The entire population can just gather together at the supper table and discuss proper milking techniques.

(Don't think I'm supporting American government, insulting them is just too easy)

Because the Republican-led House of Representatives refuses to negotiate with the Democrat-led Senate (and vice-versa), the US is about to fail to pay its bills on time, therefore shutting down a large portion of the government. This shutdown is due to the disagreement over the ACA (Affordable Care Act) and neither party will budge (at present, that is). While the Republicans in the House refuse to sign any bill that will not delay the enactment of the ACA (though it started today), the Democrats in the Senate will refuse to sign anything altering the mandate. This led to hundreds of thousands of americans that work for the federal government to either be furloughed (temporary leave without pay) or they are at work and not getting paid for being there.

Sucks to suck, but the US political system is a mess.

EDIT: And because I work for the government, I'm currently furloughed.

The worst part is that there are enough republicans in the house willing to pass a bill to increase the debt ceiling without delaying the PPACA, but thanks to the Hastert rule that won't be allowed to happen.

The government actually screwed me over -_-
I was gonna get a phone this week, but now my dad (active military) doesn't get payed for about a month or so. F-U Government!
Also, my dad had to lay-off a bunch of people, it was pretty bad :\
