OK - this thread is to everyone who plays vortex wars - if you have just started playing or have played since it was published you might find some great tips and advise on this thread!

The first piece of advise is to read the how to play section ( to those who now how to play you can skip this bit )
Now this reveals how to play but here are some extra tips and tricks that might give you the edge of your foe.

- The common saying - slow and steady wins the race- can be a a great help in vortex wars. Although advancing quickly can give you lots of territories, it can mean you can't reinforce all your borders from attack on big areas. If the map has lots of 1 territory to 1 territory, then advancing quick becomes the best action as you can easily reinforce your borders.

- Choke Points, Many of the random and larger maps have them. it is a place where 2 islands for example are connected together by 1 territory( for example 2 on the left - 1 in the middle - 2 on the right). These are key points to hold so if you can capture one then it will help with your border reinforcing of 1 territory, not 3 for example and enable you to attack a new section of the map.

- Allies, as there is currently not a alliance feature then you have to form allies via chat. Now although this means you can team up, because of it only being words you must be careful of backstabbers. The best thing to do is to keep your border 1 unit above the number they have on there border so that they will struggle to attack you with reinforcing all your units on a friendly border.

- Game setup, Most people have a favourite or a strong setup. If you can find a set up you do well in then you can create a game with that setup - boosting the chances to win in that game.

- Position in the turn list, if your 8th it doesn't always mean that you won't win. With vortex wars you will always need a bit of perseverence to succeed. quiting when you are lower down in the turn rankings does not help your global ranking, so try to play out as best you can.

- Upgraded players, if you are annoyed about people who have paid then try not to be, as getting angry can only annoy them, create bad chat and result in bans or make people quit. Its not nice to annoyed by someone else so don't be mean to them. The best way to solve this is to buy coins and upgrade more than them!

Here are some tips for the individual game modes:

Borders - if in counqour mode try to close up territories to have the least amount of borders so that your reinforcements will be closer to where you want them. If in full map mode then try to keep your territories close together in 1 area, as spreading them out can result in bad reinforcements.

Random - In random no matter if its counqour or full map, the best tactic is slow and steady. Stacking your whole empire as 8's then moving in 1 territory a turn can help you advance and put you in a strong position.

Manual - In this mode on counqour you try to only place on borders. if on full map mode try to place them in an area where you have lots of territories. A good tactic however is if you know you are going to lose your borders is to place the units internally so they will be at a border when your foe ends his go after attacking.

Attrition - In this mode it is sometime worth attacking even if you know you are going to lose because it can wekan your opponenets border, even more so if you have several territories next to the target in question, because after several attacks it can weaken him enough to take the territory.

HardCore - this means only attack if you have the edge in numbers, attack bonus or 8v8 because if you lose there will be no damage and you will have to try again next go.

1v1 - because this is a much more random game you could attack with the worst odds and succeed or the best odds and lose. The best tactic here is to play carefully and try not to be too attack or lose style.

I hope these tips and tricks are useful to you all and look forward to seeing some good fair fights on vortex wars!
