Do you get shards for attacking surrendered territories?

Does anyone know if you get shards/EXP for taking over areas of a person that quit out (white again but with race and army value of the person that surrendered).

I would really like an answer to this too. Been bugging me for ages.
It would put an end to waiting around for someone to kill you whilst they mop up all the blank tiles, if there is no value in it.
