Can someone explain to me why my topic is locked and I cant post anything on it.

Ah yes, I locked it because there was another thread already started on this issue.

I get that but still doesnt it seem at least a little bit extreme to lock it.

If I thought so, I would not lock it. The point is to not have dup threads whereby users are posting about the same topic in different threads. Hence, a lock and link to first thread, is a perfect way to handle it, unless of course you have a better suggestion to prevent such.
