new game, can't place first region

I joined a 5-player game of attrition, conquer, on some user made world map. I was red, zoomed out, tried to place my region, but the game just didn't let me, i could scroll though. So 1 turn wasted. Next turn the same (after zomming in again), saying: 'you have been idle for 2 turns bla bla kick...' so i surrendered. Others could play...
