The only civ I'm afraid of besides my own is the barbarians, due to there members, and how many members they have.

I don't understand what you are saying. Under the points section is how many points you gain from each match.
The bonuses are to try to help you make more points by giving you more or giving you an advantage, while the penalties are there to try and balance out the bonuses, and make you lose points for doing poorly.

Exactly.
Look under "Points" it shows how many points you win for each game. They get 1 less than what it says, but they get to use bonus races.
You are in the Barbarians, so you get 2 more points than what it says for every win, but you lose 2 every time you lose.
